Daisychain encompasses a variety of art and craft techniques,
creating original and unique mixed media artworks, photographic cards
and 3d works. Daisychain was founded in 2003 by Alice Shannon, who is
based in Lochgelly, Fife. Alice has been an exhibiting professional artist
since graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee in
1990, with a BA(hons) degree in Drawing and Painting.
The aim of daisychain is to combine fine and applied
art skills using new, old and reclaimed materials, endeavouring to bring
original and skilfully executed arts and crafts to the public. Mixed media
artwork is a term used when several mediums overlap and many different
materials and methods constitute one piece. Alice uses her fine art skills
in building layers of impasto and glazes. Then surface is built with paper
collage, fabrics, sequins and a multitude of miniscule embellishments,
all secured with a PVA concentrate and sealed in with spray varnish. This
gradual and labour intensive method gives the work a textured and bejewelled
look. The work is presented in ‘themes’ but each piece is
totally unique and original, the images are never reproduced in prints
or cards. The mounts are in standard imperial sizes so ready made frames
are easily available. |
